MIESC Governance¶
The canonical, up-to-date governance model lives at: ../../.github/GOVERNANCE.md.
It describes roles and responsibilities, the decision-making process, how to become a maintainer, the RFC process, and how governance itself is amended. This file previously held an older "Version 1.0 - December 2024" thesis-phase model that contradicted the canonical document; it has been redirected to keep a single source of truth.
Appendix: Academic Origin and Project Phase¶
Last updated: June 2026
MIESC began as part of a Master's thesis in Cyberdefense at Universidad de la Defensa Nacional (UNDEF), Argentina, and has since shipped as a maintained open-source product (current release: v5.4.3).
| Phase | Model | Window |
|---|---|---|
| Origin | Single maintainer (thesis phase) | 2024 – early 2026 |
| Current | Maintained release + community growth (BDFL with open contribution) | 2026 – |
| Future | Core team formation, then meritocratic steering committee | as the contributor base grows |
SDG and Sustainability Context¶
- SDG relevance: see SDG_RELEVANCE.md and DPG-COMPLIANCE.md.
- Funding: academic project; pursuing Digital Public Goods Alliance pathfinder support, research grants, and GitHub Sponsors.
- Succession: documented processes, an open governance model, and planned multi-maintainer onboarding ensure project continuity.
